A vast majority of the
produce used in the cafe's recipes is hand picked from their extensive
herb and vegetable garden, located at the rear of the cafe. The herb
garden literally brims with colour and life
and is available for patrons to wander through and
enjoy. Provided the weather is agreeable, this
tranquil setting can make the perfect setting for lunch bookings
with a maximum of 20 people.
The Observatory Cafe shares its occupancy of this amazing building
with the Royal Botanic Gardens visitor centre, making it the perfect
place to start your exploration of Victoria's world-famous gardens.
The gardens incorporate spectacular vistas across sweeping lawns and lakes
and is teeming with an abundance of native bird-life. The mild climate of this city, combined with a long history of plant
collection from around the world, has allowed an immense range of
plants from across Australia and the world to be brought
together.
For those who want a more detailed tour, the visitor centre operates a wide range
of guided walks and tours bringing the stories from the past and
present to life. A Highlights Walk is an ideal introduction to the
site. Special interest walks and Aboriginal heritage walks provide
insights into the plants, people, wildlife and history of the
gardens. Theme walks and Aboriginal heritage walks are available for
groups of six or more by arrangement.
So come in and enjoy an espresso or a bite to eat before heading next door
to the visitor centre for maps, or extra information to make your day at the Royal Botanic
Gardens a success.
